Space Camp

Drove to Birmingham, AL yesterday evening for a show at Matthew’s Bar and Grill. We weren’t really sure what to expect with this show, but it was a pleasant surprise. It was part of a monthly series that will be going on for the next year. Each show is a fundraiser for a music festival called Space Camp that’s going to be taking place in September 2009. Stewart, the organizer, had this pretty cool idea to have a bunch of the bands playing the festival do some fundraiser shows to raise money and, more importantly, the profile of the festival. Check out Space Camp’s myspace here: myspace.com/spacecampfestival.

We’re very grateful for the people who drove from Anniston to see us last night. Hearing things like that really just makes a night for us. We promise you next time we’re there we’ll play a longer set with better sound. We’ll be back in Birmingham December 7th with O’Brother, so we’ve got a date on the books to make it up to those that were there to see us.

In other news we have joined the ranks of Facebook and Twitter recently. If you like these social media tools you can easily find us on them (just search for winston audio on facebook and you can see our twitter page at twitter.com/winstonaudio). I’ve been thinking a lot about the changing face of communication and just how excited I am to be in a band during this time. We have the ability to get to know so many more people and to disseminate information and music to them so much faster now. In the past we haven’t been very good at being in touch with people, but we’re turning over a new leaf. That’s what this blog and this Favorite Gentlemen community is all about: we want to get to know you, and we want you to know who we are as well, not just what we do (although we really want you to know about what we do!).

Speaking of social media and blogging, one of my best friends has put together a community of bloggers who are committed to helping expose under-appreciated blogs on the web. He’s really helped me see how we communicate as a band in a different light. Show him some love over at www.chuckwestbrook.com.

This entry’s just been one entire plug hasn’t it? Hey, there are a lot of cool things going on in this world. You can’t blame me for wanting you to know about them. Just stay away from Taco Bell’s triple steak burrito. It’s totally not worth the $4. You’re better off with a cheesy bean and rice burrito or a spicy chicken burrito, two of my personal favorites.

Daniel
